ONE BLOCK RADIUS
ONE BLOCK RADIUS ROLLS OUT OF L.A. LOUD AND CLEAR WITH "YOU GOT ME," SUMMER HIT SINGLE DEBUT ON MERCURY RECORDS
(June 17, 2008 - New York, NY) Los Angeles-based trio One Block Radius, newly signed to Mercury Records, has come up with the summer-song everyone's been waiting for - as "You Got Me" closes in on 300 spins and 1 million audience after just three weeks at radio. The single's intuitive mix of old-school R&B dosed with fresh hip-hop rhymes and beat-box grooves has even won savvy Alternative programmers early in the game.
"You Got Me" impacts today at all Rhythmic radio formats, in advance of going to the pop side June 23rd. Also this week, OBR is working overtime in Los Angeles to complete the video for "You Got Me." Directed by Artificial Army (The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria). One Block Radius' self-titled debut album will arrive in stores on September 2nd.
One Block Radius - Marty and MDA from L.A., and Z-Man from San Francisco - was formed in 2003, when Z-Man took the bait and agreed to roll south to sing and write some tunes with Marty and MDA. After releasing Long Story Short in 2005, they hit the road as opening act for De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Matisyahu, KRS-One, Trick Daddy and others. Since then, OBR's songs have been heard in film and TV projects including American Gun and 50 Pills (for which Marty was a music supervisor). In 2006 they also released Cut Some Static, an Internet/live-show-only original mixtape, of which only 300 original copies exist.
OBR has described their sound as what would happen "if Steve Winwood, Hall & Oates, Earth, Wind and Fire and David Bowie listened to some Sublime, the Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest, got high and made an album on an SP-1200." It's a different sound - and that's just how they like it!
